HA1 Task 2 – Artistic Styles

          Photorealism

Photo realism refers to artwork that is created through means other than photography, which seeks a realistic appearance similar to a photograph. This can be done through paint and pencil, usually on paper or on canvas with attention paid to highlights and shadows to create incredibly realistic work.

·         Cell Shading

Cel-shading is one of the most interesting—and most controversial—ways to present a game's graphics. Done right, it can give the entire production the feel of a comic book. Done wrong, it can just be comical. Here are 5 games that use the technique to great effect.

·         Abstraction

Abstract art style employs lines and geometric shapes that are not meant to resemble anything in particular. Geometry Wars and Breakout are two well-known examples.

For a work to be considered abstract, it should not represent anything real or derived from real life, even in a heavily stylized way. Thus the concept does not necessarily include games with exaggerated visuals like Guacamelee,

·         Exaggeration

Exaggeration is used in games, mostly in RPGs, this art style is used for animé and manga typically, this art style is where the artist exaggerates many things within the game, mostly games with a Japanese influence, for example, in the game "final fantasy 7" the character "cloud" has a huge sword.
